First semester finals and study tips

[/media-credit] Aubrey Graham, ’23, preparing for finals, Dec. 10. Finals schedule is four block days with a half day on Friday.

As Christmas break draws near, students head into a busy week of finals, Dec. 10. Finals week for campus students is Dec. 14-17 as well as a half day to finish off the first semester, Dec. 18.  Find the finals schedule below.

Finals schedule:

Monday, Dec. 14: Block schedule – 90-minute classes

Tuesday, Dec.  15: Block schedule – 120-minute classes

Wednesday, Dec. 16- Thursday, Dec. 17: normal block schedule

Friday, Dec.  18: Half day – 30-minute classes

During the season of finals and tests, students get anxious and overthink test taking. Senior Natalie Arndt shares how she prepares for tests and what she does to overcome the stress of it.

“The biggest tip I could give is prepare to succeed,” Arndt said. “As you may want to procrastinate, preparation can be the difference between an A and a C. I am grateful I don’t get overly anxious, but I do get overwhelmed by homework. I would say the best way to calm down when stressed is to take a small 30-minute break to do something different, such as a walk outside.”

Do you need new ways to study for tests? Here are the top 10 study tips for finals according to Post University.

Top 10 study tips are:

1.) Avoid the desire of procrastination

2.) Get lots of sleep

3.) Create a study-focused environment

4.) Listen to music while working

5.) Turn off distracting devices

6.) Experiment different study tactics

7.) Create sample test questions

8.) Study with a group

9.) Don’t be afraid to ask for help

10.) Remember the gist

Reminder: On the last day before Christmas break, students can bring a brand new stuffed animal to receive a cinnamon roll for the annual Stuffed Animal Drive, Dec. 18. Each class will have a reserved time, to be determined, where they can exchange the stuffed animal for a cinnamon roll. You can also bring $5 instead of a stuffed animal. All the stuffed animals collected are donated to Valley Children’s Hospital patients.

Don’t forget to prepare yourself for finals! You can do this! Only one more week until Christmas break!
