Hip-hop artist impresses in third record

Kevin Burgess known as “KB” continues to impress with his recent album release “Today We Rebel”, following the release of his previous album, “Tomorrow We Live”.

This album has impressed me thoroughly. I expected a lot from this project, but it surpassed my expectations with flying colors. KB set a very high standard with his previous album “Tomorrow We Live”. That was an album I still listen to, even though it released two years ago.

“Today We Rebel” contains 14 songs and contains guest appearances by artists such as Lecrae, Aha Gazelle, Ty Brasel, Andy Mineo, For King and Country, Casey J and Sarah Reeves. The title of this album means rebelling against sin, hypocrisy, society, and Satan himself. I thoroughly enjoyed this album because he raps more about his personal faith than any other current Christian Hip-Hop artists do currently.

The track “DNOU” is the perfect intro for the album. The production is flawless, which supports his powerful lyrics. This song is a must have on a workout playlist.

Monster” states before Jesus changed his life, he lived a reckless, irresponsible lifestyle. Now, through the platform of hip-hop music, he can share the love of Christ at his massive concerts and how God turned him “to a man from an imposter”.

The song “Art of Drifting” conveys the most powerful lyrics in the album. He states that if you are not constantly pursuing God, you will be drifting away from him without even realizing it. It talks about how some Christian concerts can be more about selling tickets and filling seats, not about lifting God’s name. How God can be more of a job than a God. It exposes the presence of hypocrisy in the Christian industry, which is extremely bad.

Overall, I believe this is one of the best Christian Hip-Hop albums I have ever heard. The features were strong and well chosen, the message was fantastic and unique, and the production was solid. — Logan Lewis

Following is a seamless transition into the song “Art of Hope”. “With Everything” by Hillsong Worship is sampled on the beat which was a pleasant surprise. Concluding is the classic hymn “Be Thou My Vision” which slows down the mood before the enormous next track.

The triumphant anthem “Not Today Satan” is definitely my favorite song on the album. This song was undoubtedly made to be played full volume. The track is very motivational, encouraging resistance to Satan’s temptations which surround us every day. Andy Mineo features, and brings some humor by making a reference to the movie Nacho Libre and poking fun of political figures. I was very impressed with the production of it. Within the beat is an awesome trumpet which adds a unique flavor to the song.

In “New Portrait” he questions his personal faith and the validity of Christ’s story. This song is much more of a story than his other songs.

The project ends on a high note. The hype is built up to it through the eerie “Rebel Intro”, done by Sarah Reeves. It leads a seamless transition into “Rebel Rebel 88” which states that KB has been a rebel since birth in 1988. He once led a sinful life, rebelling against God, but now he rebels against Satan’s evil, and the world’s ways. The beat is sampled from the song “Backwards” by Jon Keith.

I love how KB releases a commentary album, explaining each song and the story and message of it. It adds a very nice personal touch to his music.

Overall, I believe this is one of the best Christian Hip-Hop albums I have ever heard. The features were strong and well chosen, the message was fantastic and unique, and the production was solid.

Good article but I didn’t like all of the songs. It was a good album but there were only a few that I really liked.
