Boys soccer looks different than last season

Boys+soccer+looks+different+than+last+season

The global pandemic has shut down many events worldwide since March 13, 2020. Most schools are slowly opening up and all high school events are different than last year including sports.  Through obstacles and challenges, Boys soccer is back on the FC field! Making a comeback to their previous season, boys soccer defeats CVCHS, 6-1, at their home game, March 23.

Boys soccer was coached by Ramon Del Campo Rey and when the team folded, he left to sign for Las Vegas Lights. Adam Smith was asked to take over and now coaches the team. Smith’s children attend Fresno Christian and are grateful for the wonderful environment the school gives.

The 2019 season concludes with a loss against Dos Palos in the semi-finals. Boys soccer aimed for a successful season and strives to play with consistency for the 2021 season.

There are a total of 6 seniors, Jacob Hyatt, Andrew Reiker, Lorenzo Fierro, Hunter Raynes, Carston Saelzler, Ethan Castiglione. Stay tuned to the feather for senior night.

Senior Ethan Castiglione has been playing soccer since pre- school and expresses his passion for the sport.

“ I’ve always stuck with and worked with soccer all my life, Castiglione says”. “In junior high I barely played but I still practiced and it was always fun to play. In highschool my coach, Ramon, really gave me a new passion for soccer and helped me realize how it could relate to life. I could build strong bonds with my teammates and it’s like being part of a family.  We did what we loved while competing with others and each other for the top spot. I probably won’t play in college but I will play futsal and indoor for pickup games when I have free time. It would also be nice to coach some teams or help coach teams after high school as well.”

Coach Smith is looking forward to this season of just being on the field and working together as a team.

“It has been a crazy situation but I am so proud of the boys and how they have minimized the negative impact and just got on with things. Having the season now is just what they deserve for all their patience.” Smith said.

The teams next game against Avenal at 5:30, April 19. It would be awesome if you come out and support!
