The 139th annual “Big Fresno Fair” takes place at the County fairgrounds, Oct. 5-16. It is the fifth-largest fair in the state of California and more than 600,000 people attend the event each year.

The Fresno fair was founded by businessmen involved in both the Farm Bureau and Chamber of Commerce. The two groups bought 100 acres of land after collectively raising $25,000. Originally based on a desire to showcase the agricultural bounty of the time, the fair continues this tradition in hopes of connecting urban and rural California.

 There is a total of 65 rides to choose from such as ferris wheels, sky rides, carousels and more. Ride tickets are $0.60 each with both rides and carnival games requiring 9-14 tickets.  

 Depending on what lot you choose, parking costs $10-15, although surrounding houses offer their property as parking spaces for better prices. Adult tickets are $12, senior tickets sell for $8 and those with valid military ID and children ages 6-12 are admitted for $5. For those who plan on attending multiple times, the 48-dollar season pass, usable all 12 days, is a more affordable option. 

 The last day to visit the Big Fresno Fair is Sunday, Oct. 16.
