President’s Day

[/media-credit] George Washington was the first president of United States.

Since the Uniform Federal Holiday Act of 1971, President’s Day is the third Monday of February. The holiday occurs between the 15th and the 21st, celebrating George Washington’s birthday, Feb. 17.

Washington was the first president of the United States of America. His first term serving as president was from 1789-1793. Before becoming president, Washington led the American Continental Army in 1783, concluding in a victory against the British.

Washington’s birthday was originally celebrated as a holiday in 1880 in the District of Columbia. It was officially made a federal holiday in 1855. President’s day used to be celebrated on Washington’s birthday, Feb. 22, 1732.
