While most relaxed and slept Monday night, Bible department head Scott Falk paced and mind raced. His daughter, Beth Reid, was in labor in a Chico hospital.
The five-hour drive to the northern California city had been a blur as Falk and his wife, Carol, nervously reminisced on Bethany’s birth at the same hospital back in 1980.
As he pulled into the parking spot, Falk noted, “I’ve been here before.” The past, present and future were about to intersect.
The 20-inch Maia Charis Reid was born at 10:15 P.M. March 11, weighing in at 6lb, 13oz.
Falk held down the traditional chair in the maternity waiting room while Carol, a registered nurse, assisted in the delivery. Maia emerged just a few rooms down from where her mother, Bethany, was born.
“Holding little Maia took me back to the feelings and memories I had when I first held Bethany,” Falk mused. “I’m looking forward to many of these moments in the years ahead.”
Falk and his wife will stay in Chico the rest of the week running errands and spending quality time with the newest member of the family.
